About

Established in 2023, Brisbane Shotokan Karate (SKIA Brisbane) is Brisbane's first local branch of Shotokan Karate International Australia (SKIA), helping people of all ages discover the lifelong benefits of training in Shotokan Karate.

SKIA is an affiliate of Shotokan Karate International Federation (SKIF) Japan,  founded by the legendary Soke Kanazawa, Hirokazu (10th Dan), with a focus on harmony in all areas. The association is now headed by Kancho Kanazawa, Nobuaki. The current chief instructor for SKIF is Shuseki Shihan Murakami, Manabu

Our style of training continues the philosophies of Soke, in aiming to achieve harmony in all aspects of life. Training is often seen as challenging but rewarding to those who persevere, and members build mental and physical resilience which is applied in their life every day.

We are a family-oriented club, aimed at providing an inclusive environment to promote the development of character, self-discipline, and respect; instilling a sense of belonging and camaraderie in all our students - through the study of Karate.

Brisbane Shotokan follows a national syllabus, and our qualifications are recognised internationally through SKIF.
