Beginners

Beginners are welcome at Brisbane Shotokan Karate. In fact, you're invited to attend two lessons free of charge!

Attending Your First Lesson

Beginner class is from 6pm-6.30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and between 9.30am-10am on Saturdays.

We train at both the Salisbury State School and the YMCA Acacia Ridge Community Centre. Although the area is safe, children are requested to wait inside the YMCA until their parents/ guardians arrive to collect them after class.

If you don't have a Karate Gi (Karate uniform), please wear comfortable clothing (t-shirt and shorts, or a track suit). Please remember to bring a water bottle to every lesson.

Before you begin training, you will be required to complete the SKIA Informed Consent and Participation Commitment Form. For your safety, our instructors are accredited Sports Coaches and have current First Aid certificates and Working with Children/ Blue Card accreditations.

Joining Brisbane Shotokan Karate

After your two (free) lessons, training fees apply. We are a non-profit organisation, so your fees go towards Dojo expenses such as venue hire and event subsidy.

Membership to the national association requires completion of the SKIA Application for Membership Form. The SKIA membership fee covers you for sports insurance and membership to SKIA.

We can organise Karate Gis (Karate uniforms) for you. Please let us know if you would like us to get you one.
